Schön Pool Cues were born in the early 1980s, when an avid pool player named Terry Romine Sr. started making cues as a hobby in the back room of Romine’s High Pockets North, a billiards hall in Milwaukee.
He didn’t think any other cues on the market allowed for enough precision, so he set out to make the perfect cue and approached a man named Bob Runde to suggest they start their own company.
They formed their business in 1981 and named it Schön Cues, after the German word for “beautiful.” The two men traveled around the country to tournaments and got feedback on their cues from professional and amateur billiards players alike.
Over the next decade, the company continued to grow, and Runde retired in 1992. Romaine passed away in 2013, but five master craftsmen were working at the company to continue his legacy.
Today, the company lives on with those craftsmen who work to make the handcrafted cues every day.
